Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, originally Star Wars was the first movie in the original trilogy, as well as the Star Wars franchise. It was released on May 25, 1977, and was written and directed by George Lucas.
The movie was set about 19 years after the end of the Galactic Republic, and focused on the lives of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo.

It is a period of civil war.
Rebel spaceships, striking
from a hidden base, have won

the evil Galactic Empire.
During the battle, Rebel
spies managed to steal secret
plans to the Empire's
ultimate weapon, the DEATH
STAR, an armored space
station with enough power
to destroy an entire planet.
Pursued by the Empire's
sinister agents, Princess
Leia races home aboard her
starship, custodian of the
stolen plans that can save her
people and restore
